Apollo’s Aspis turned from Oak Burr
This sculptural piece of turning was inspired by the war torn shields from the Roman Empire.
Apollo’s Aspis is around 20″ tall and 16″ across.
The face of the piece is turned with burnt texture bands. These have been guilded with gold. The bark around the outside has been removed and guilded to add to the effect.
The back of Apollo’s Aspis has just been polished to show the stunning oak burr of in it’s full glory. Two pieces in one.
Update Apollo’s Aspis was selected as a cover photo of The Woodturning magazine 2019.
