Round & Brown is made from an English Oak Burr which came from a Kentish manor house which is local to me.

It was turned with what would have been the bark facing outward on the lathe so that a natural edge could be obtained.

Due to the undulations of the piece of Burr Oak I have been able to turn this leaving a couple of voids in the Oak Burr bowl which I feel adds that little something to it’s design.

The natural edge oak burr bowl has been called “Round & Brown” as it’s a woodturning term to something that as been turned on the woodturning lathe but the wood is left natural rather than enhancing the wood in some other way.

Round & Brown is approximately 140mm tall and 180mm in diameter. The wall thickness of the piece is quite thick at 20mm but this had to be to keep the feature of the knobbly bark in one of the voids.

The Burr Oak bowl has been finished with a light Lemon oil so that it kept a more natural look to the wood.

This Oak Burr bowl is quite a heavy piece so could be displayed anywhere.
